Saltaire 1 April 2012

Quite a lot happening along the canal today, as the following images will show.

The Drummer Boy coming through the swing bridge at Hirst Lock.

Quite a large boat waiting for Hirst Lock to open.

The big boys playing football.

The fisherman hoping for a good catch.

The little boys playing football.

Another boat quietly passing.

Everyone enjoying the sunshine.

The Two Shires canal boat coming through Hirst Lock.

A newcomer on the canal today, a crested duck.
Crested ducks have a wonderful regal air about them. There are reasonably good layers but mostly kept for pets. Crested ducks have been around for a long time and feature in art dating back over 2,000 years.

One sees quite a diverse sense of fashion on visitors to the canal, like this very tall lady.

Casual or a little more dressed up, they all like to stop for an ice-cream.
